Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis Attorneys Lawyers Wyoming

The public is slowly becoming more aware of a terrible disease known as Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) that is associated with certain MRI contrast dyes.  We have provided a list of frequently asked questions to help people understand the basics.  If you have additional questions, please contact our law firm for a free case review.
Who is most at risk for developing this disease?

People with kidney problems are most at risk.  This could include someone with:

• impaired kidney function
• high blood pressure
• diabetes
• on dialysis
• kidney infection
• someone who has had a kidney transplant or is eligible for a kidney transplant.

People with liver problems are also at a higher risk.

Which contrast dyes should I be concerned about?

There are 5 contrast dyes that contain gadolinium and they are listed below:

Omniscan® (otherwise known as gadodiamide, and might be referred to as Gd-DTPA-BMA in your medical records).  This contrast dye is manufactured by GE Healthcare.

ProHance® (otherwise known as gadoteridol, and might be referred to as Gd-HP-DO3A in your medical records).  This contrast dye is manufactured by Bracco.

Magnevist® (otherwise known as gadopentetate dimeglumine and might be referred to as Gd-DTPA in your medical records).  This contrast dye is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare.

OptiMARK® (otherwise known as gadoversetamide and might be referred to as Gd-DTPA-BMEA in your medical records).  This contrast dye is manufactured by Mallinckrodt.

MultiHance® (otherwise known as gadobenate dimeglumine and might be referred to as Gd-BOPTA in your medical records).  This contrast dye is manufactured by Bracco.

What procedures are these contrast dyes used for?

• MRI
• MRA
• Angiogram
• Angioplasty
• CT scan
• Vengoram
• Fistulogram

How do I know if I have had used one of these contrast dyes?

If you drank the contrast dye, you did not receive a gadolinium based product.  However, if you were injected with a contrast dye after 1987, you may have received one containing gadolinium.

Who is being sued?

The drug manufacturers are being sued on claims that they failed to warn people and their doctors about the harmful side effects associated with these contrast agents.  See more information about Gadolinium Lawsuit.

How do I know if I have this disease?

There are many undiagnosed and misdiagnosed cases of Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis.  The disease is relatively obscure, many doctors are still unfamiliar with it.  NSF can be mistaken for other diseases like scleroderma or even arthritis.  See more information about Gadolinium Side Effects.  If you believe you might have this disease, you should have a dermatologist take a deep tissue skin biopsy from the affected area of the skin and then tested for NSF by a pathologist.
